WORK OUT (2016-2020)

This film invites you to look at the performative ways in which humans explore their identities, in this case through an intense work out. I shot the film in a Latino neighbourhood, while investigating beauty and identity in Los Angeles (the gym was around the corner from my residence, and I was drawn in by its booming music). 

The rhythm of the music functions as a heartbeat, the song lyrics are as poetic as psalms. Time slows down as the endorphins start to work. The gym-goers move individually yet at times an almost spiritual synchronicity takes place.
